Executive Director's Address

Dear Supporter,img_5589-1

It is my pleasure to present you with the Overtown Youth Center’s Annual Report for the 2015-2016 programmatic and fiscal year. Enclosed is a summary of our program services, successes and financials. Many exciting things have happened this year and we are very happy to share them with you! We are rapidly growing and evolving to remain relevant in the communities we serve. Our youth and families are among our most precious resources and we are committed to doing all we can to provide them with the tools and guidance they need to lead productive and fulfilling lives.Over the past year, we’ve expanded to serve more youth and graduated 100% of our high school seniors. We enhanced our College and Career Development programming with the IE2 (Inspire. Educate. Employ) Experience and placed over 35 youth and young adults on jobs and internships. We also placed a more concentrated effort on visual and performing arts by hiring a gifted Artistic Director; re-introduced gardening as a Science Technology Engineering & Math (STEM) component and implemented new programs like The Beats Academy, a music production school for teens designed to prepare them for a wide range of careers within the music industry. In addition, we recently expanded our full program model to two additional sites and launced a Parent Resource Center in partnership with United Way of Miami-Dade. Finally, we worked hard to diversify our funding sources and increased our budget by 20%. We remain focused on maintaining the necessary capital to keep strengthening our capacity to operate an effective and sustainable organization.

These milestones could not have been achieved without you, our generous supporters and the dedication of our team who work tirelessly to inspire, empower, enrich, expose and equip our youth to be successful in a 21st century marketplace. Our ultimate goal is that 100% of the youth we serve grow up and become positive contributing citizens.

In short, great things are happening at OYC and there is still more work to do! We know the need is great and we will do all we can to rise to the occasion. I offer my sincere thanks to all of the amazing people who have helped us create a brighter future for our youth. We do not take your support lightly or for granted. We will continue to be good stewards of your generous contributions by working hard to change our community one youth, and one family at a time.

Yours in Service,

Tina Brown
