Kids get free dental screening at Overtown Youth Center

The Miami Takeover Experience (MTO) kicked into high gear this week with two community service events during its eighth yearly visit to the area.

Members of MTO come to Miami on vacation from July 9-13 and at the same time they perform community service.

This year, MTO partnered with Colgate-Palmolive to provide free dental screenings to 140 children at the Overtown Youth Center. The screening took place Thursday, July 9.

“We are excited to bring the MTO experience back to Miami for our Eighth year. Each year we are committed to growing our community service arm of the experience we curate for our 3,000 guests that come to Miami for the backdrop of the sun, beach and nightlife,” said Wylie Kynard, co-founder of MTO in a statement.

The MTO group defies the perception that Black young adults do not give back to their communities. This group’s members not only does so in their perspective home cities, but have created a platform to participate in community initiatives while on vacation.

The week culminated with MTO’s beach clean-up, conducted in partnership with the Miami Beach Convention Center and the Environmental Coalition of Miami. The beach-clean up took place Sunday, July 12. —Photos courtesy of Photography LLC
