A Trip to the Parrot Jungle

When the student’s learned there was a field trip planned to the Parrot Jungle it brought about a buzz of excitement at the Center. On the day of the trip the children were picked up from their respective schools and brought to the center for snacks. The children were so excited that they started to spill out into the lobby from the auditorium. Prior to the bus departing from the Center, the students were reminded of the OYC standards and expectations, as well as, the fact they represent their parents and the Overtown community.

The children had many questions regarding what they would do and see at the Parrott Jungle. They were anxious to get there. We were greeted by the staff and volunteers of Parrot Jungle and were given novelties and goodies before our adventure began.

Seeing the children literally attack the mascot to take pictures brought a smile of joy to my face. The chaperones kept the children together and safe. They provided assistance with bathroom runs, getting snacks in the vending areas, and provided direction during time of interactive play, while searching for the minerals and precious stones. What a wonderful relationship building outing!

The student’s provided me with feedback on the bus ride home. Overall, they had a lot of fun and would love returning for another visit. Some even wondered when they returned could they take souvenir photos with the animals.

Getting back to the center and getting the children on the van to take them home went well. Parents were pleased with the outcome of the outing. I would like to commend all of the chaperones that assisted with the student’s that day because. All of the students returned back to the Center safely and had lots of fun!
