Alonzo Mourning Charities proudly presents Sponsor-A-Student, a new initiative aimed at enabling donors to directly invest in our most valuable resource – the future of our children. Sponsor-A-Student allows donors to see the immediate impact their funds have on the lives of the at-risk youth serviced through Overtown Youth Center, a program supported by AMC.
Alonzo Mourning Charities, in partnership with Self Enhancement Inc., has implemented one of the most unique and successful in-school, after-school, and summer programs in the country. AMC currently offers this supplemental education and enrichment program through the Overtown Youth Center (OYC) in Miami’s historic Overtown area. To date, in an area with systematic low achievement, 100% of the students enrolled in the program graduate from high school and become productive citizens—entering a four-year college, vocational school or obtaining gainful employment and actively contributing to their local and global communities. Funds from Sponsor-A-Student will support the 275 second to twelfth grade students enrolled at the OYC. In addition to providing financial support, donors are also encouraged to develop a deeper relationship with their assigned students as they progress and flourish and the donor receives quarterly updates about their student(s).
Donors are encouraged to make at least a three-year commitment of $4800 per year to fuel this program that provides tutoring, academic assistance, test-prep, art and language enrichment courses, computer skills, health and wellness, and self-esteem training to students. Please contact us about how you can get involved and contribute to the successful futures of our students.
