ZHLM LogoZo’s Hoop Law Madness is a fundraising event designed to provide an opportunity for South Florida Law Firms to unite with corporate sponsors, business leaders and others in the community to make a difference in the lives of our children. Last year, we had 24 South Florida law firms participate!

Jewel Summit

Saturday, May 20th

The Overtown Youth Center presented the 6th Annual Jewel Summit 2016 with guest speaker Tragil Wade (Dwyane Wade’s sister) at Jose De Diego Middle School in Miami on May 21st , 2016. The Jewel Summit also featured a Zumba workout by Suyumi Quiroz, A Girls Empowerment Session “Knowing your self worth,” A Womens’ Empowerment Panel, “Being a Visionary for the Family,” Art of a Jewel, Ice Cream Social and Close out. (Photo by / Mitchell Zachs)The Jewel Summit is designed to offer young girls of the Overtown and surrounding communities a chance to examine the meaning of respect and how it can effect their every day lives. This summit provides them with an opportunity to form solid values in an encouraging and supportive environment.

19897072364_7b60c99291_zEach year, OYC students and staff prepare for a full theatrical, broadway-style production during the center’s six-week summer program. In addition to learning scripts and choreography, students help design the set, inclusive of props and the stage backdrop.

33 Thanksgivings

23128162100_2e151f5e3d_z (1)The Mourning Family Foundation provides over 500 families of the Overtown Youth Center and Honey Shine with a full Thanksgiving meal. With the help of FedEx, Alonzo surprises 10 families by personally delivering their meals on Thanksgiving Day.

Holiday Party

24050604195_ca813d8d27_zThe Mourning Family Foundation hosts a holiday party at Gulfstream Park each year where students and staff enjoy themselves as they partake in food and fun. At the Holiday Party, OYC provides gifts for every one of its students, made possible through donations.
