A Feast Fit for Kings and Queens

A Feast Fit for Kings and Queens

Overtown Youth Center and Honey Shine youth indulged on yummy and mouthwatering African-American dishes during a Black History luncheon. This feast fit for kings and queens, was a part of our month-long Black History Celebration. The kids had the opportunity to sample a variety of delicious foods that are staples in the Black community. Food has always been a bonding and celebratory time amongst African-Americans, and including this soulful tradition was a perfect enlightening and educational experience for our kids. Some of the dishes the children dined on were, pigeon peas & rice, candied yams, honey ham, biscuits and syrup, as well as much more. Smiles were seen all around as the children enjoyed the African-American culinary dishes, while rejoicing in the heritage and meaning behind these foods.
